Still playing with the Compass formula (z - > z^d – da^(d-1) z + b, the a-plane plotted and “b” fixed to zero). The exponent “d” is this time put to 2i (0 + 2i). This is another example of the weird forms and mystical phenomena that non rational exponents give rice to :omg: Often a very huge bailout (=escape radius squared) is required in order to not have any cut off. In this case the channels may be diminished if one increase the bailout. In this case also the parent fractal seems to be grow greater as the bailout increases. In fact this motive is a result of an out-zoom instead of an in-zoom. As usual one always find small mandys (copies of the ordinary quadratic Mandelbrot set), more or less distorted. Many such are visible in this image :wow:

The motive is drawn using the formula “Extended Compasses” for Ultra Fractal. For more info of this formula, see my journal Fractal Compasses [link] .

No filters or post processing :)

Below the parameter file. Play and have fun :)

I know that just about everyone else to comment has said that this looks like a map, so I'll say this much: I've been working on a fantasy setting that's the basis of my first (likewise still WIP) novel. I don't really understand any of the mathematics/formulas/whatnot behind the making of this fractal, but this work, when viewed as both a map and a clock, is so accurate to the way that my setting functions that it's /eerie/.
