This motive is drawn with an alternative parametrizing of the cubic parameter space, z -> z^3 + az^2 + bz. Here the critical points becomes z = +sqrt (-a/3) and z = sqrt (-a/3).

*b_imag = 0

Both the sets M+ and M- are displayed, one set in each layer.

Nicely done pattern! It looks a bit like a bird to me, but I can see why one would see a jet shape too.

I would've chosen a lighter blue color scheme for the sky, but what you chose is just fine too.
