Sharing Good NewsI am very happy to be able to (finally) share some good news with all my friends and watchers..

As many people have experienced during the last 3 to 4 years, the "recession" in many parts of the world has had a huge effect on peoples lives. Many of us lost work opportunities – either a job or (as in my case) as a freelance consultant.
Personally, whilst trying to deal with many other issues, I have experienced the sadness of applying for nearly 400 jobs, having 3 replies and 1 interview in the last 3 years!! I am sure that many of you have experienced something similar – and it does make you feel pretty down at times…
BUT, I have had good friends (especially on DA) who have given me cause to smile and count my own blessings…

Mathematical Playtime 2In this second journal in the Mathematical Playtime series we also shall deal with periodic cycles, but in a more easy way than in the previous journal. The main attraction is at a first sight a meaningless play using only the numbers 0 and 1, and no quotas. So let’s start with a sequence 0110011001100110…. . In order to see it’s a 4 periodic sequence, let’s use commas in order to make it more obvious; 0110, 0110, 0110, etc.
Question: Why do you use just the combination 0110, and not for example 1001?
Answer: Well, I just sat meditating putting me in a transcendental mode, and so this sequence just came up

there is a short zoom sequence starting at the northern part of the head of the entire Mandelbrot set. The yellow arrow in the first image shows the part of a branch where the next zoom is performed. Note that the whole M set is connected and that the branches are solely built up of an infinite hierarchy of minibrots. Also note that the number of secondary decorations to a minibrot increases according to the series 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 etc when we approach the minibrot. I am working as a process operator on a chemical industry. Most of my job is situated in a control room containing many computer screens. Now we will play the game I am a rational number between 0 and 1. Double me time after time, but as soon I become 1 or greater, subtract 1, and go on for ever.
Complicated? Well let’s take it more easy

First:  What is a rational number? Answer: A rational number is a number that can be brought into the form p/q where both p and q are integers.
Second:   We can put our game into the iterative rule:

Plants and Water ContestHi everyone!
A very Happy New Year to you all!
I hope the new year has been treating each and everyone of you well. So far for me, it's a bit half and half lol.
I missed you all bunches. School is starting back on the 21st January so my activity is gonna plummet again. So sorry about that.... but I this year I wanna start off with something new. Instead of a journal feature like I usually do, I'm going to do something a lil different. I'm going to host a competition.
The theme is 'Plants and Water'.
I chose this theme because, not everywhere in the world has snow and it'd be difficult to do a winter themed thingy.
The medium is photography ONLY.
You can submit TWO entries only.
Entries must show water on the plant/ part of the plant. Parts of plants are acceptable such as leaves, stems, flowers, fruits etc.

Update: Another awesome TV program is Fractals - Hunting the Hidden Dimension

The old stuff: This evening (27 of May) my Windows XP crashed)

That means no more fractals from me until either I fixed the problem or have a new computer built. Lucky I have my mini lap, with Ubuntu, so I have fully access to the net

Waiting for more fractals from me, I put a link to an old legendary TV program from the nineties,

In the above TV program (53 minutes), containing many cool fractal animations, Some scientists as Michael Barnsley, and of cause Benoit Mandelbrot himself, explain fractals in a very nice way. I really recommend everyone, and especially those who are fractal artists to take a look at the above. And those of you who have not heard about fractals, or heard about fractals very roughly, will see fractals everywhere after having watched this film.
