Update: Another awesome TV program is Fractals The Hidden Dimension :wow: Now I have a functional link again :)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The old stuff: This evening (27 of May) my Windows XP crashed) :frustrated: That means no more fractals from me until either I fixed the problem or have a new computer built. Lucky I have my mini lap, with Ubuntu, so I have fully access to the net :) Waiting for more fractals from me, I put a link to an old legendary TV program from the nineties,

(click ->) Arthur C Clarke - Fractals - Colors of Infinity (<- click)

In the above TV program (53 minutes), containing many cool fractal animations, Some scientists as Michael Barnsley, and of cause Benoit Mandelbrot himself, explain fractals in a very nice way. I really recommend everyone, and especially those who are fractal artists to take a look at the above. And those of you who have not heard about fractals, or heard about fractals very roughly, will see fractals everywhere after having watched this film.

Take care everyone and be kind to your Windows systems ;)
 • Listening to: The wind
 • Reading: I don't dare to say :paranoid:
 • Watching: dA
 • Playing: Not at the moment
 • Eating: sometimes
 • Drinking: Coffe

Oh that's very interesting.

It incorporates informations that I found sparse in a vaste number of TV documentaries I have seen before in the past, but sure it is a very complete experience well written and explained, and more... it is presented by Arthur C. Clarke who in the beginning explored fractals on his Amiga computer (and like myself and hundreds of amigans in the past, he used Vista Pro fractal software to generate terraformed mars pictures) and by the person himself (Mandelbrot) who has discovered it all, and also this documentary shows original photos on the first B/W images as seen by researchers on ancient IBM mainframes. Very good!

Yeah isn't it?

You are one of those fractalists who really know the history of fractals :wow: I may be wrong, but sometimes I have the feeling that the history of fractals tends to be a little bit forgotten amongst the new fractal artists of today :hmm:

BTW, check out this journal :wow:

Knowing the history of fractals?

No... Absolutely not. I am an ignorant. I barely know that they are been created by Mandelbrot applying existing formulas to a graphic computer screen.
All I know cames from an ancient Scientific American magazine issue in the eighties"The fractal nature of the universe" (If I remember well the title). And then i was amazed by fractals seen in TV.
As long I could reproduce them on my Amiga i was very happy that finally i had the chance of exploring it. When it exploded the 3D scene, i was lucky that my Amiga was one of the first platforms that could create entre 3D worlds with its terrain generating software.

In the begining of the computer age sure I knew the curves of Peano, before discovering fractals, as they were common in Logo language, and I saw it in some encyclopediae I had at home.

I barely knew about Gaston Julia as I read of it in some of my text books at High School, but we never explored those chapters that remote deals with Julia just describing he has existed as mathematician. How bad...

.. but then you know more than the most ;)

I never had an Amiga, but what I understand Amiga was before its time. A shit that Bill took over :hmm:

I've been running Ubuntu for a while now. Xaos is a pretty basic, but good program for fractals. What do you use?

I hope you can fix your XP soon however painful it is to re-install it and wait for the 200 or so updates that you must add to the version you have. I have gone through it and I am still alive, luckily I switched to Windows 7 now. :D

I'm sorry to hear about your Windows mishap, Ingvar! I hope it won't be too long until you can make fractals again. The video is fantastic! I usually don't have enough patience to sit through something this long, but I found myself absolutely glued to this video. Another video I like, particularly beause it explains some of the math in easy ways, is Hunting the Hidden Dimension [link] .

The installation and the computer goes back to the end of 2003, and the crash was not co,completely unexpected. Lucky most files are backuped. If I by a new computer the old c-disk may be my extra dik ;)

Yeah, isn't it :wow: You may REALLY be th person that appreciate it =P

It really is! I loved it! And looking at the Youtube comments, it seems to have gotten other people interested in fractals! ;)

Yeah, Backing up is essential in handling data :)

That's a reminder of the pioneer spirit when fractals where new and the computers slow ;) Very healthy to watch for todays fractal artist :D I think I have to read the comments too ;)
